
Emily Wurramara
Emily Wurramara is an award-winning singer-songwriter and musician whose music bridges cultures, stories, and generations. A proud Warnindhilyagwa woman from Groote Eylandt, Emily grew up between Meanjin (Brisbane) and the Northern Territory, writing and singing in both English and her ancestral Anindilyakwa language. Her work blends contemporary blues and roots with Indigenous storytelling, bringing her people’s language and culture to audiences across Australia and beyond.
Since her debut Black Smoke EP in 2016, Emily’s music has resonated deeply, amassing over sixteen million Spotify streams and earning widespread industry acclaim. Her debut album, Milyakburra (2018), explored connection to land, family, and culture, earning an ARIA Award nomination, an AIR Award win, and six Queensland Music Awards. The album offered listeners an intimate insight into Emily’s journey, while carving out a fresh and inspiring voice in Australian music.
Emily has built a reputation as a captivating live performer, headlining tours across Australia and supporting artists including Midnight Oil, Jack Johnson, Michael Franti, Rob Thomas, and Mavis Staples. Beyond music, she is a passionate advocate for mental health, youth suicide prevention, and environmental causes, using her platform and songwriting to raise awareness and inspire change.
